Title

Summary

1356 adds nearly 100 years of content to Europa Universalis IV, bringing the start date back to December 25th, 1356 - the date Charles IV's Golden Bull was signed! We as a team are working very hard to keep historical accuracy, and to make this the same way we believe Paradox themselves would handle something of this sort.
What you get:

  • A New Start Date: December 25th, 1356
  • 4 New Bookmarks
  • All new history files, resulting in an accurate as we can get 1356 date
  • Many new nations that existed at the time (York, Lancaster, Jalayirids, ect)
  • As many historical rulers as we can find
  • A new Age: The Age of Feudalism (with custom art!)
  • 6 New Tech levels, with many existing techs being tweaked for better balance with our start date
  • Diplomacy for the whole additional time period added (Hundred Years' War anyone?)
  • Handful of new religions
  • Event chains to help simulate historic events (Kalmar Union, Hussite Revolution, ect)

What we have so far

  • A start date of 1356, all complete with as historical province ownership as we can find
  • Hundreds of new events relating to historical events that occurred at the time
  • A handful of mission trees for various nations, all based on historical or plausible historical outcomes
  • Many new formable nations, and tags
  • Zoroastrian and Susomenuko Flavor
  • (WIP) Mechanics to further simulate the Feudal Era
  • French Feudalism mechanics

Goals, and additions moving forward

  • Add deeper mechanics to the Feudal Era
  • Continue adding flavor to every region
  • Continue adding missions to as many tags as we can
  • Provide as much compatibility between other mods as we reasonably can
  • Work with our community to make changes and tweaks that represent the interests of not only us devs, but the community
  • Never add new provinces

History

The mod 1356 starts us off on the 26th of December, 1356, when the Golden Bull was signed by Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor. The Golden Bull effectively decided how the Holy Roman Empire should be governed, how someone should be elected emperor, where the elections should take place, who was to be the electors, and how many votes it would take to elect the new emperor, and in general regulated everything about the succession of the empire in great detail. It was signed without involvement by the Pope, which was abnormal due to the history the Papacy and the Holy Roman Emperor had in the past. However, this was due in part because the Pope himself needed Charles IV's assistance against the Milanese dynasty at the time.

Elsewhere in the world the Spanish are in the middle of a massive succession crisis, the Hundred Years' War is in full force. The Byzantine Empire has the opportunity what was once theirs, while the Serbian Empire is at its height right next door. Across the Aegean Sea the Sultanate of Rûm has collapsed and the Anatolian Beyliks are plotting, fighting, and scheming in its wake. Elsewhere, Genghis Khan's successor states are in decline, with the Golden Horde attempting to keep itself in one piece, and the Ilkhanate states attempting to find their own place in the Middle East. Further east, the Delhi Sultanate is choking as it attempts to save its dying empire, while the Yuan dynasty in China suffers the wrath of the Red Turban Rebellion, savable only by a miracle. Finally, in Japan there are two distant relatives fighting for whom is the rightful Emperor of Japan.

Many things are going on around the world that will shape history for centuries to come. Will you save a dying empire, or forge a new one?
